Vegetable Extract Boosts Collagen
Vegetable derivatives have been shown to increase the level of type 1 collagen in the skin’s fibroblasts, according to a recent study by Korean scientists.
Published in the journal Nutrition Research, the study looked at the effects of vegetable peptones, which are peptides extracted from certain protein-rich vegetable substances, on skin cells.
It found that peptones increased the proliferation of cells, and what’s more, the higher the concentration of the peptones, the greater the increase of cells.
The study’s authors wrote, “These results suggest that the vegetable peptones are involved in attenuating skin ageing, possibly by promoting cell proliferation and type 1 procollagen production.”
However, the researchers did warn that further research was required before vegetable peptones can confidently be used in skincare.
